HC Deb 05 August 1897 vol 52 c387
MR. MCCARTAN

I beg to ask the Secretary to the Treasury, as representing the Postmaster General, whether his attention has been called to the complaint made in the Belfast Evening Telegraph on 19th July last as to the delay in the transmission of sporting and other telegrams from England to Belfast; whether he is aware that on the previous Saturday evening a telegram from Birmingham to the Belfast Evening Telegraph took three hours and two minutes in transmission; and whether he will take steps to prevent a repetition of such delay in the transmission of telegrams to Belfast newspapers?

MR. HANBURY

The Postmaster General's attention has been drawn to the complaint made in the Belfast Evening Telegraph on the 19th July, to which the hon. Member refers. With regard to the particular telegram referred to in the second paragraph, the Postmaster General very much regrets to find that it was mislaid in the Belfast office, and this caused the great delay complained of. The Postmaster General will be glad to take every step in his power to prevent a repetition of any such delay.
