MR. PATRICK O'BRIEN; I beg to ask the Secretary to the Treasury, as representing the Postmaster General, when it is proposed to begin the universal delivery of letters in the rural districts of Ireland, promised by the Chancellor of the Exchequer in his Budget Speech?
§ MR. HANBURYThe Surveyor's proposals for extending the delivery of letters throughout the United Kingdom, in accordance with the promise of the Budget Speech, are being received, and the proposals, after examination, will be 94 carried into effect without any unnecessary delay. As was, however, intimated by my right hon. Friend the Chancellor of the Exchequer, the work of extending the deliveries in all parts of the country will occupy a considerable time, and cannot possibly be completed within the present financial year.
