HC Deb 27 April 1897 vol 48 c1126
MR. WEIR

I beg to ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he would state the total sum provided by the Government, to make good deficiencies in connection with trustee savings banks since the passing of the Savings Bank Act?

The HON. MEMBER also asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he would state the total profits on the Post Office Savings Bank since the foundation of that institution?

THE CHANCELLOR OF THE EXCHEQUER (Sir MICHAEL HICKS BEACH, Bristol, W.)

The statement asked for by the hon. Member as to Trustee and Post Office Savings Banks cannot be conveniently given in the form of an answer to a Question. I would refer him to House of Commons Paper No. 75 of this Session and to the last Report of the Postmaster General, where he will, I think, find all the information he requires.
