HC Deb 12 April 1897 vol 48 c923
MR. J. E. GORDON (Elgin and Nairn)

I beg to ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he will consider the advantage, to the public and the Treasury, of such legislation as will grant to the State custody of funds now in the care of bankers and others, but which have remained unclaimed during a period of years?

THE CHANCELLOR OF THE EXCHEQUER (Sir MICIAEL HICKS BEACH,) Bristol, W.

This question has been frequently considered by the Treasury, but the difficulties connected with it are very great, and I am afraid that I cannot undertake to deal with it in the manner suggested by the hon. Member.
