asked whether the Papers as to the closing of the Vaal drifts by the Government of the South African Republic in October 1895, were about to be laid before the Cape Legislature, and whether he would lay similar correspondence on the Table of the House.

Yes, I have an intimation from the Government of Cape Colony to the effect that they desire to lay these Papers on the Table, and they have asked our assent, which we have readily accorded; and in these circumstances I propose to lay the Papers on the Table of this House.
