HC Deb 06 April 1897 vol 48 c634
* SIR ELLIS ASHMEAD-BARTLETT

I beg to ask the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether he can give the House any information as to recent disturbances in Swaziland: and whether Her Majesty's Government have any special representative in Swaziland?

MR. J. CHAMBERLAIN

I have no information of recent disturbances in Swaziland. If any serious disturbance had taken place the British Consul in Swaziland would no doubt have reported it to the High Commissioner?

* SIR E. ASHMEAD-BARTLETT

Will the right hon. Gentleman make inquiry?

MR. J. CHAMBERLAIN

I will, if the hon. Gentleman desires it; but it is really unnecessary to make these inquiries about unfounded rumours. ["Hear, hear!"]
