HC Deb 06 April 1897 vol 48 cc599-600
SIR JOHN LENG

I beg to ask the President of the Board of Trade whether he receives an annual Report by the Commissioners of Northern Lighthouses, stating what progress is being made with the improvement of existing lights and the erection of new lighthouses and fog horns on the coasts of Scotland; and, if so, whether it can be published in addition to the Report of Inspection of Harbour and Local Lights?

MR. HANBURY (on behalf of Mr. RITCHIE)

No Report in the form suggested in the Question is made to the Board of Trade by the Commissioners of Northern Lighthouses. The Commissioners have to obtain the sanction of the Board of Trade to all expenditure on new works connected with lighthouses, and a statement, of the sums actually expended on such works will be found in the Civil Service Appropriation Accounts (Mercantile Marine Fund—Grant in Aid) which are annually presented to Parliament.
