HC Deb 06 April 1897 vol 48 c636
MR. JAMES DALY () Monaghan, S.

I beg to ask the President of the Local Government Board what steps he intends to take to prevent the deportation of paupers from England and Wales to Ireland?

MR. CHAPLIN

In January of last year the Local Government Board received a communication from the Local Government Board for Ireland, suggesting that a Departmental Committee should be appointed to consider the question of the existing law as regards the removal of poor persons from England and Scotland to Ireland. The Board replied that they would be prepared to nominate a member of the proposed Committee to represent England, but they have not received any further communication on the subject.
