HC Deb 06 April 1897 vol 48 c604
MR. HUDSON KEARLEY () Devonport

I beg to ask the First Lord of the Admiralty (1) whether the compensation, allowance of 4d. per day, as recently conceded to the troops which took part in the last Aldershot manœuvres, as compensation for extra, wear and tear of clothing, occasioned by the bad weather, will be made to the Royal Marines, who also took part in the same manœuvres; and (2) whether, in consideration of the amount of route marching and manœuvring now imposed on the corps, the same issue of boots as now received by the Army will for the future be granted?

THE SECRETARY TO THE ADMIRALTY (Mr. W. E. MACARTNEY,) Antrim, S.

The answer to the first Question is in the affirmative. As regards the second Question, the question of the issue of boots to the Royal Marines has been carefully considered, and it is not intended to alter the present regulations.
