§ SIR SEYMOUR KING (Hull, Central)I beg to ask the Secretary of State for India whether he will consider the advisability of extending temporary promotion to the ranks of Lieutenant-Colonel and Major, which has recently been accorded to Staff Corps Officers serving as Commandants and seconds in command of Native regiments, to Staff Corps Officers serving in the Military departments under the Government of 57 India, with a view to placing them on an equal footing as regards temporary promotion with their comrades in regimental employment?
§ THE SECRETARY OF STATE FOR INDIA (Lord GEORGE HAMILTON,) Middlesex, EalingThe position of officers serving in the military departments under the Government of India is not analogous to that of the Commandants and seconds in command of Native regiments, and I do not consider it necessary to extend to them temporary promotion to the ranks of Lieutenant-Colonel and Major recently granted to the latter class of officers. ["Hear, hear!"]
