HC Deb 19 May 1896 vol 40 c1691
MR. HENRY BROADHURST (Leicester)

I beg to ask the First Lord of the Treasury, whether any steps will be taken by the Government to protect witnesses before the Royal Commission on the Licensing Question from injurious consequences arising from giving evidence before that body?

SIR MATTHEW WHITE RIDLEY

Perhaps the hon. Member will allow me to answer that Question. An Act of Parliament, as the hon. Member is aware, was passed for this very purpose in 1892. The Government are quite prepared to do everything in their power to see that the Act is enforced.
