§ SIR WILLIAM WEDDERBURN (Banffshire)I beg to ask the Secretary of State for India, whether, as stated in a telegram from Rangoon published in The Times of 12th May, it is true that he has offered to sanction the creation of a Legislative Council for Burma; and, if so, whether he will favourably consider the grant of a Legislative Council to the Punjab, as prayed for during the last ten years?
§ THE SECRETARY OF STATE FOR INDIA (Lord GEORGE HAMILTON, Middlesex, Ealing)It is true that the question as to the establishment of Legislative Councils in Burma and in the Punjab is now under the consideration of the Government of India, and that I am expecting to receive a report from them on the subject; but I am, of course, unable in the meantime to give any opinion as to the decision which may be arrived at.
