HC Deb 11 May 1896 vol 40 c994
SIR HENRY FOWLER (Wolverhampton E.)

I beg to ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer, whether he has arrived at a decision as to the application of the Council of the Incorporated Law Society in respect of the increase of duties which has been imposed on them by recent legislation?

THE CHANCELLOR OF THE EXCHEQUER (Sir MICHAEL HICKS BEACH,) Bristol, W.

The application referred to is one for the grant to the Incorporated Law Society of a small portion of the revenue derived from the Solicitor's duty in order to defray the increasing cost of the statutory duties imposed on the society in cases of misconduct by members of the profession. There are some difficulties connected with the matter, but I think the request is reasonable, and I hope to have a clause in Committee on the Finance Bill in order to deal with it. ["Hear, hear!"]
