HC Deb 01 May 1896 vol 40 c347
MR. J. K. WINGFIELD-DIGBY (Dorset, N.)

I beg to ask the President of the Local Government Board, whether it is the case that under the present law the County Councils in the several counties have no power to deal with fraudulent representations, such as selling Foreign meat, cheese, and butter, &c., not as such, but amongst English, and in such a way that it might be mistaken for English by an unwary customer; and, if the County Councils have the power, will he issue a circular reminding them of this fact?

THE SECRETARY TO THE LOCAL GOVERNMENT BOARD (Mr. T. W. RUSSELL,) Tyrone, S.

It does not appear to me that under the present law County Councils have any such powers as those referred to in the Question.
