§ SIR WILLIAM HOULDSWORTH (Manchester, N.W.)I beg to ask Mr. Chancellor of the Exchequer if he can state the amount of the assessment for Income Tax, under Schedule D., for the year ending 31st March 1895; and if it would be possible for the whole assessments for Income Tax to be included yearly in the Statistical Abstract which is published in October of each year, that is six months after the end of the financial year, instead of only appearing in the Statistical Abstract of the succeeding year, or eighteen months after the period to which they refer?
§ THE CHANCELLOR OF THE EXCHEQUER (Sir MICHAEL HICKS BEACH,) Bristol, W.The statistics asked for by the hon. Member are not yet complete. In view of the time occupied in closing the Income Tax accounts and clearing up arrears under each Schedule, it is at 1598 present found to be impossible to complete the figures of the Income Tax assessments within six months of the end of the financial year. Supplementary assessments also are frequently made after the end of the financial year, which must be taken into account in any complete statement of the assessments of the year.
