WILLIAM SIDEBOTTOM (Derbyshire, High Peak)I beg to ask the Under Secretary of State for War, with reference to the promise of the Government that Volunteer officers on joining battalions should receive £10 towards the expense of their uniform, and a further £10 on passing their examinations, whether this second £10 will be paid to officers already joined, but not yet passed their examinations on their successfully doing so?
§ MR. BRODRICKThe object of the Grant is to enable the vacant Volunteer commissions to be filled up. I fear we cannot make it retrospective.
