BATHURST (Gloucester, Cirencester)I beg to ask the Vice President of the Committee of Council on Education, if inquiry is made, and, if so, of what nature, into the rateable value of a parish before sanction is given to a proposed loan to a School Board, and what limit, if any, is put to the amount of the loan?
§ SIR JOHN GORSTThe Committee of Council do not inquire into the rateable value of a school district before sanctioning a loan to a School Board. In the absence of special circumstances, the whole cost of the school, exclusive of site, legal expenses, extra rooms for instruction authorised by the Code, residences, if any, and central halls, must be kept within the sum of £10 per child accommodated.
