HC Deb 17 March 1896 vol 38 cc1169-70
MR. HENRY LABOUCHERE (Northampton)

I beg to ask Mr. Chancellor of the Exchequer, whether he is aware that, notwithstanding his assurance that the form of notice to persons who have not paid their taxes, containing the misleading term "warrant," would be withdrawn, such notices are still issued by the collectors?

THE CHANCELLOR OF THE EXCHEQUER

The purport of my former answer to the hon. Member was that the form to which he objected would be withdrawn from issue and a new form substituted. Of course, it is possible that in some cases forms which were in the hands of collectors before my decision was arrived at may have been used since. There was, as the hon. Member will easily understand, no time to issue a fresh form for use in the present year; but as the matter has been publicly explained, I do not see that any harm is likely to ensue.
