HC Deb 22 June 1896 vol 41 c1543
MR. R. G. WEBSTER

I beg to ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department, whether his attention has been called to the fact that the Parliamentary borough of St. Pancras, containing a population of nearly 250,000 inhabitants, has at present no police court, and that in consequence great inconvenience is caused by police cases having to be heard outside the borough; and, whether he will establish a police court within the borough?

* SIR MATTHEW WHITE RIDLEY

This question was carefully considered three years ago by a Departmental Committee on the number and limits of the police court districts, who, after taking evidence, reported to my predecessor that a sufficiently strong case had not been made out for the establishment of a new police court to serve the parish of St. Pancras. I am not aware that there has been any such change in the circumstances since as would call for a reconsideration of the question.
