§ MR. MACNEILLI beg to ask the Secretary of State for the Colonies (1), whether he is aware that a resolution 851 for the appointment of a Select Committee, consisting exclusively of Members of the Cape Legislative Assembly alone, has been adopted by that Assembly for the investigation of the affairs of the South Africa Company in their bearing on the interests of Cape Colony; (2) whether that Select Committee is to communicate by resolutions or otherwise with any Committee of the Cape Legislative Council; (3) has any Committee of the Cape Legislative Council, to inquire into the affairs of the South Africa Chartered Company, been appointed; and (4), whether there is any exact precedent for the proposal of the right hon. Gentleman for the investigation of the affairs of the South Africa Chartered Company by a Joint Committee of Lords and Commons?
MR. CHAMBERLAINI have not had any official information as to the proposed proceedings of the Cape Legislature in this matter. In answer to the hon. Member's last Question, I would refer to my answers to the hon. Member for Dundee on the 19th ultimo.
