HC Deb 23 July 1896 vol 43 c454
MR. W. O'MALLEY (Galway, Connemara)

I beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord lieutenant of Ireland whether his attention has been drawn to a resolution passed unanimously by the Guardians of the Oughterard Union, county Galway, in which they urge upon the Government in Ireland the necessity for bridging Lough Corrib at Knock Ferry; and whether he would recommend a free grant from the Treasury to the Congested Districts Board or to the Grand Jury of county Galway for the carrying out of this important and useful work?

* THE CHIEF SECRETARY FOR IRELAND (Mr. GERALD BALFOUR,) Leeds, Central

I could not give an answer to this Question without making detailed inquiry respecting the projected work. As the hon. Member is doubtless aware, the matter was brought under the notice of my predecessor who did not see his way to recommend the Treasury to provide funds for the purpose.
