I beg to ask the Chief Secretary for Ireland, whether, in view of the additional work created by the new applications under the Irish Land Act, he would recommend the suspension of the 65 Rule in the case of Sub-Commissioners; and, is it the advice of the English Law Officers that the Treasury have taken as to the applicability of the 65 Rule to Sub-Commissioners?

The Assistant Commissioners are permanent civil servants of the Crown, and I have no power to recommend in their favour the suspension of the Order in Council fixing an age for the compulsory retirement of all permanent civil servants. The second Question is obviously one that should be addressed to the Treasury
