§ MR. HOGANI beg to ask the Parliamentary representative of the Charity Commissioners, whether any inquiry into the management and present position of the Covent Garden Theatre Fund, established in 1765 for the support of aged, infirm, and indigent actors and actresses and relief of their widows and children has been instituted; and, whether he can state to what extent this fund is now fulfilling the objects for which it was founded?
MR. GRANT LAWSON (York, N.R., Thirsk)The Covent Garden Theatrical Fund is regulated by an Act of 16 Geo. III. c. 31, and so far as it is in the nature of a friendly or benefit society it: is exempt from the jurisdiction of the Charity Commissioners. No such inquiry as is mentioned has been made or asked for, and consequently no such statement as is now asked for can be given.
