HC Deb 13 July 1896 vol 42 cc1306-7
MR. KNOX

I beg to ask the President of the Board of Trade if he can say in how many cases the meters of the London gas companies were tested in the half year ending 30th June, 1896; in how many cases they were found to be fast, in how many slow, and in how many accurate; and whether, in the event of the meter being fast, the consumer has the right to deduct the sum overpaid by him in respect of the quarter preceding that which was the subject of controversy when the meter was tested?

THE PRESIDENT OF THE BOARD OF TRADE (Mr. C. T. RITCHIE,) Croydon

The Board of Trade have no power to call for such a return as that desired. I learn, however, from the London County Council that that Body can furnish me with the information, and as soon as the figures are received I will communicate them to the hon. Member.
