HC Deb 10 July 1896 vol 42 c1224
MR. RADCLIFFE COOKE (Hereford)

I beg to ask the Under Secretary of State for War whether any, and if so how many, Volunteer infantry brigades are furnished with machine-gun sections; whether, in the cases where they are so furnished, the guns have been supplied by the War Office or from private sources; and whether the War Office supplies the ammunition?

MR. BRODRICK

A machine-gun section does not form part of a Volunteer infantry brigade, but several Volunteer corps have provided themselves with machine guns. In these cases ammunition for the machine guns is, on certain conditions for insuring efficiency, and within prescribed limits, issued on payment.
