HC Deb 03 July 1896 vol 42 c655
MR. MICHAEL AUSTIN (Limerick, W.)

I beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland if the Petty Sessions Clerk of Hospital and Kilfinane, County Limerick, has resigned those positions, if so, who is discharging the duties of his offices; and, whether, as these districts are not amalgamated, he will consider the convenience of the residents of the different localities in appointing a clerk for each district?

MR. GERALD BALFOUR

No intimation has been received of a vacancy in the office of Petty Sessions Clerk of either of the two districts mentioned. In the event of a vacancy two separate elections would have to be held. The appointment is in the hands of the magistrates, and not of the Government.
