HC Deb 17 February 1896 vol 37 c453
MR. W. FIELD (Dublin, St. Patrick)

I beg to ask the President of the Board of Agriculture whether it is the intention of the Government to introduce a Bill applying the Carriers Act to shipping companies engaged in the cross Channel transit of live stock?

THE PRESIDENT OF THE BOARD OF TRADE (Mr. C. T. RITCHIE,) Croydon

With the permission of the House I will reply to the hon. Member's question. Her Majesty's Government have no intention of introducing a Bill to apply the Carriers Act to shipping companies engaged in the cross Channel transit of live stock. Every effort, however, is being made to secure effective supervision and control of the traffic by means of regulations on the lines recommended by the Cattle Transit Committee of 1894.
