HC Deb 13 February 1896 vol 37 cc229-30
MR. J. CALDWELL (Lanark, Mid.)

I beg to ask the Lord Advocate, with reference to his statement at Edinburgh on the 6th inst. to the members of the last School Board of Ardchattan and Muckairn, that if there happened to be in any district in Scotland two Episcopalian families with five children in each, and that a school was erected for them, such a school would be entitled to recognition from the Department even although the School Board had provided sufficient accommodation for all the children in the district, whether the Scotch Education Department are prepared to place Episcopal schools in Scotland upon the annual grant list in accordance with the above statement of law?

THE LORD ADVOCATE

The representation given in the question as to what I said in conversation at an interview at which no reporters were present, is neither full nor accurate. I am not disposed to give the hon. Member in this House a legal opinion upon a hypothetical I state of facts, especially when questions of administration are involved.
