§ MR. J. P. FARRELL (Cavan, W.)I beg to ask the President of the Board of Trade, whether any, and, if so, what steps have been taken by him to ascertain the facts as to the dangerous condition of the Royal Canal Harbour at Longford, in consequence of the want of 1719 a protective paling, which has led to the accidental drowning of a large number of people; and, will he instruct the Board of Trade Inspector to inquire into this matter with a view of providing such paling?
§ MR. RITCHIEThe Board of Trade have no power to take any official action in this matter; but I have asked an Inspecting Officer of Railways to look at the place when he is next in the neighbourhood, and make a report to me.
