§ MR. WEIRI beg to ask the Secretary for Scotland whether steps will be taken to push forward the Ness Harbour works during the summer?
§ SIR GEORGE TREVELYANThe improvements of the Port Ness Harbour is in the hands of trustees. Acting on their own responsibility these gentlemen made terms with the contractor, which would have involved the expenditure of a much larger sum than has ever been contemplated. I have decided that these terms cannot be approved of, and that until affairs are on a more satisfactory footing, the Government subsidy must be withheld. In the meantime good progress is being made with the breakwater, which is being built under another contractor.
