HC Deb 21 May 1895 vol 33 cc1718-9
MR. ANGUS HOLDEN (York, E. R., Buckrose)

I beg to ask the President of the Board of Trade if his attention has been drawn to the fact that the fishermen representatives chosen by the Board of Trade to act on the Sea Fisheries Committees have practically ceased to attend, they having to bear their own expenses in attending the meetings of such Committees, the result of this being that the Sea Fisheries Committees are now deprived of the services of these practical men; and, whether, in view of this fact, he proposes taking steps to effect some alteration in securing a more effective administration of the Sea Fisheries Regulation Act, 1888?

MR. BRYCE

I am not aware that the fishery members have practically ceased to attend the meetings of the Committees; on the contrary I understand that many of them do attend. The Sea Fisheries Regulation Acts appear on the whole to be well administered, and I do not consider that any case exists for altering the law.
