§ THE FIRST COMMISSIONER OF WORKS (Mr. HERBERT GLADSTONE,) Leeds, W.said, the Bill proposed to renew certain powers granted by a previous private Act to a local Company to acquire land in Parliament Street, Westminster, for the purpose of erecting buildings upon it. The question was one of very considerable public interest. The Government, having considered it, had come to the conclusion that it was desirable to take the land themselves for 1570 their own purpose. As he did not wish to take the House by surprise, he begged to move that the Debate be adjourned till Thursday, when he should be prepared to make a full statement of the position of the Government upon the question.
