HC Deb 16 May 1895 vol 33 c1323
MR. THOMAS W. RUSSELL (Tyrone, S.)

On behalf of the right hon. Member for London University (Sir John Lubbock), I beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland whether it was proposed to make certain archæological researches at Tara; if so, under whose superintendence the works would be carried on; and whether a survey and relief model would be made showing the present configuration of the earthworks?

*MR. JOHN MORLEY

Such a proposal has been put forward by private persons, but it is not supported either by the Royal Irish Academy or by the Royal Society of Antiquaries in Ireland. Any recommendation from those two societies would receive every attention, but in its absence the Board of Works, in whom this ancient monument is vested, would not be justified in giving the necessary permission for the proposed work.
