§ THE SECRETARY TO THE TREASURY (Sir JOHN HIBBERT,) OldhamThe answer to the first paragraph of the question is 23, and to the second 11, all of whom were University graduates in Honours. The examination was held in order to fill existing vacancies, and others which might occur during the next six months. It will rest with the head of a Department in which such a vacancy occurs to decide whether to offer the appointment to the next candidate on the list or to wait for the next examination.
