JAMES LOWTHER (Kent, Thanet)I beg to ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether Section 20 of the Finance Act, 1894, already applies to British India and the Feudatory Native States to which British Political Officers are appointed; and, if not, whether steps will be taken with a view to the issue of the necessary Order in Council.
§ SIR W. HARCOURTSection 20 of the Finance Act, 1894, has been applied to British India by Order in Council dated February 2, 1895. The Order in Council does not extend the Section to any part of India where the law of British India does not apply, and therefore it does not extend it to any Feudatory Native States.
