HC Deb 19 March 1895 vol 31 c1361
MR. J. TULLY (Leitrim, S.)

I beg to ask the Secretary to the Treasury whether he has received a memorial from the people living on the borders of the Shannon, from Battle Bridge to the Wooden Bridge, praying to have the river deepened and made navigable for a distance of two miles; and whether, in view of the distress in that locality, and the necessity of providing employment for the people, he can state when it is proposed to undertake drainage works on this portion of the Shannon?

SIR JOHN HIBBERT

Assuming that the work mentioned in the question is the removal of a shoal at Drumherriff, in the bed of the river Shannon, which forms part of certain improvements provided for by vote, the Board of Works hope to be in a position to commence work on a small scale about the 1st proximo.
