HC Deb 19 March 1895 vol 31 c1380
SIR E. ASHMEAD-BARTLETT

I beg to ask the Under Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, whether he will inform the House what is the amount of territory (in square miles) that was assigned to the Congo Free State by the Anglo-Congo Treaty of 12th May 1894, and of which the Congo State was deprived by the Treaty between France and the Congo State of 14th August 1894.

SIR E. GREY

A reference to Sir Edward Hertslet's "Map of Africa," Vol. II., page 1002, will give the geographical definition of the territory over which the Free State has bound itself not to exercise influence; but I cannot give the number of square miles.
