§ MR. C. E. SCHWANN (Manchester, N.)I beg to ask the Postmaster General whether he is now prepared to give a final decision to the application made to him six months ago by the deputation of provincial telegraphists for an increase to the rate of pay of the younger telegraphists after five years' service?
§ THE POSTMASTER GENERAL (Mr. ARNOLD MORLEY, Nottingham, E.)As I have appointed a Committee to 1162 received statements from the various classes of the postal service on the subject of their position and prospects, I propose—even if the telegraphists themselves should not raise the question—to ask the Committee to be good enough to consider it in connection with other matters which will, I presume, be brought before them; and I do not think it would be right for me to decide the case pending inquiry by the Committee.
