§ SIR RICHARD TEMPLE (Surrey, Kingston)I beg to ask Mr. Chancellor of the Exchequer whether any financial provision will be made to give effect to the recommendations of the Department Committee (Educational) regarding the superannuation of teachers in elementary schools in England and Wales?
§ THE CHANCELLOR OF THE EXCHEQUERI am quite aware of the importance of this subject; but my hon. Friend will, no doubt, understand that nothing in the way of financial provision can be made without the previous passing of an Act of Parliament defining 189 the nature of the scheme to be adopted. I find, on inquiry, that the subject has received much consideration from the late Government; but at present I can say no more than that the matter shall receive my early and careful attention.
