HC Deb 21 February 1895 vol 30 c1273
MR. T. W. RUSSELL (Tyrone, S.)

I beg to ask the Postmaster General when it is proposed to commence the building of the new post office at Portadown?

COLONEL SAUNDERSON (Armagh, N.)

asked whether the right hon. Gentleman would endeavour to push on the erection of this office in order that some much needed work might be provided in that part of the county?

Mr. ARNOLD MORLEY

The question is more properly one for the Chief Secretary as representing the Board of Public Works in Ireland; but I have ascertained that plans and specifications for the new post office building at Portadown will be ready by the 1st of April, and that tenders will then be invited. Provision for the expenditure has been made in the Board's Estimates for 1895–6.

COLONEL SAUNDERSON

May I ask the Chief Secretary for Ireland whether he will use his influence in this matter?

Mr. J. MORLEY

The question should be addressed to my right hon. Friend the Secretary to the Treasury.

COLONEL SAUNDERSON

Then I will ask the right hon. Gentleman whether he will use his influence with the Treasury to get this building erected immediately?

SIR J. T. HIBBERT

said he would do his utmost to meet the wishes of the hon. and gallant gentleman.
