HC Deb 18 February 1895 vol 30 c970
COLONEL NOLAN

I beg to ask the Vice President of the Committee of Council on Education, if lie can state roughly how much per child is paid on an average from the State to those primary schools in which the teachers and most of the children are Roman Catholics; and, whether these payments are made directly or through the intermediary of school boards.

MR. A. H. D. ACLAND

According to the latest available returns, the average grant per child, including the drawing grant, made by the State to Roman Catholic elementary schools, in which it is to be presumed that, as a rule, both the teachers and most of the children are Roman Catholics, is £1. 8s. 5½d. The payments are made directly to the managers of the schools and not through School Boards.
