§ MR. J. C. FLYNNI beg to ask the Under Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether an import duty of about 28s. per barrel in Russia, and 6s. 3d. per barrel in the United States, is levied on cured mackerel, whereas the import duties on cured herrings does not exceed 7s. per barrel in Russia and 4s. 2d. in the United States; and, if so, whether the Government, in view of the importance of developing a new Irish industry, will use its good offices to induce the Governments of Russia and of the United States to reduce the duties on cured mackerel to the same as that on cured herrings?
§ *SIR E. GREYI am afraid that representations to foreign Governments to alter import duties, which they have arranged to suit their own interests, would not be attended with any good result.
