HC Deb 15 February 1895 vol 30 c846
MR. W. REDMOND (Clare, E.)

I beg to ask the Chief Secretary for Ireland whether he has received a telegram containing a resolution, passed at a public meeting held in the town of Ennis, with reference to the distress which exists in that town; and, whether he will consider the advisability of allocating a portion of the grant towards the relief of the distress?

MR. J. MORLEY

I have received the telegram to which the hon. Member refers, calling upon me to give some share of the grant towards the relief of the distress in Ennis. It states that 200 able-bodied men are out of employment in that town, but I must point out that the object of the grant is to relieve small land-holders and not persons out of work.
