HC Deb 15 February 1895 vol 30 c829
MR. F. A. CHANNING

I beg to ask the Under Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he is aware that in Marash the feeling of the Moslem population is so embittered against the Armenians that they have been repeatedly marching in bands through the streets singing: "To-day we are going to kill the Giaours;" whether a complete state of terrorism is now prevailing in this city; and whether immediate representations will be made to the Porte that steps are urgently needed to prevent an outbreak of violence towards the Christians?

*SIR E. GREY

Her Majestys Government have received reports as to the existence of anti-Christian feeling among the Mussulman population of Marash. The attention of the Turkish Government has been called by Her Majestys Ambassador to the state of affairs there and in other parts of the Aleppo vilayet, and inquiry has been promised.
