HC Deb 12 February 1895 vol 30 c561
MR. J. W. CROMBIE (Kincardineshire)

I beg to ask the Secretary for Scotland whether he can inform me if it is the intention of the University Commissioners to proceed with Ordinance No. 57 [Gen. No. 19], dealing with the marks of subjects at the Bursary Competition, in face of the local disapproval which has been expressed; and, if so, when the Ordinance will again be presented to Parliament?

THE SECRETARY FOR SCOTLAND (Sir G. TREVELYAN,) Glasgow, Bridgeton

The Ordinance referred to by the hon. Member is now before Parliament, and out of the hands of the Universities Commission. I am informed by the Commissioners that they have had practically no indication that the Ordinance, as finally adjusted, did not meet the views of the Aberdeen Authorities as well as those of the other Universities. The Commissioners have laid before me their reasons for the allocation of marks to the respective subjects, which appear to me to have been carefully thought out.
