HC Deb 21 August 1895 vol 36 cc462-3
MR. CLANCY (Dublin County, N.)

I beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland, whether he has yet come to any decision on the subject of the claims of the Christian Brothers to a share in the grant for National Education in Ireland; and, if so, whether he will communicate that decision to the House before the Irish Education Vote is taken in Committee of Supply?

THE CHIEF SECRETARY FOR IRELAND (Mr. GERALD BALFOUR,) Leeds, Central

I believe it is most unusual to address questions to a Minister on a Wednesday, and I must say that it is most inconvenient. I may, however, be able to give a reply to the hon. Member. No decision has yet been come to on this subject. It is not possible for us to arrive at a decision until I shall have been over to Ireland and have had an opportunity of considering all the circumstances of the case.

MR. CLANCY

explained that he had put the question on the Paper, because he thought the matter might have been discussed on the Estimates that day.
