HC Deb 16 August 1895 vol 36 cc157-8
MR. CARSON

I beg to ask the Under Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, whether it is intended to demand from the Chinese Government compensation for the family of the Rev. Mr. Stewart, murdered in the recent massacre in China?

* MR. CURZON

In the opinion of her Majesty's Government it would not be advisable to raise the question of money compensation for the families of the murdered persons until after the punishment of the individuals implicated in, or responsible for, the recent massacre, which they regard as an object of primary importance.
