§ VISCOUNT CRANBORNE (Rochester)I beg to ask the President of the Local Government Board whether his attention has been directed to the memorial of the ratepayers of Strood, showing that, by the operation of Section 53 of the Local Government Act, 1894, they have been deprived of the management of their cemeteries and burial-ground provided out of the rates, which is now administered by an outside body; and whether he can suggest any steps which may be taken to obviate the anomaly which has thus arisen?
§ MR. SHAW LEFEVREI have seen the memorial referred to, but I have no power to interfere in the matter to which it relates. I can only suggest that the parties interested might consider whether the case could be dealt with under Section 69 of the Local Government Act, 1894, which enables the County Council, where an alteration of area was made by that Act, to issue orders with respect to the areas and constitution of local authorities affected by the alteration.
