HC Deb 23 April 1895 vol 32 c1490
SIR THOMAS ESMONDE (Kerry, W.)

I beg to ask the Under Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether Queen Liliokuolani is imprisoned in a barracks at Honolulu, in which a number of semi-savage soldiers are also quartered; whether anyone is responsible for her safety; and if so, who is; and whether Her Majesty's Government will make representations to the Government of Hawaii in order to secure better treatment for the Queen?

*THE UNDER SECRETARY OF STATE FOR FOREIGN AFFAIRS (Sir E. GREY, Northumberland, Berwick)

We have no further news as to the Queen's imprisonment, and the matter is not one in which Her Majesty's Government could interfere.
