§ MR. A. GRIFFITH-BOSCAWEN (Kent, Tunbridge)I beg to ask Mr. Chancellor of the Exchequer, whether any steps have yet been taken to procure the return of Dr. Herz, who for over two years now has been under arrest, and is lying seriously ill at Bournemouth; and, if not, whether the Government propose to take any steps, either by negotiation with the French Government or otherwise.
§ MR. ASQUITHI may point out that the "arrest" of Dr. Herz consists simply in the presence of a police officer in the hotel where he is lying ill, and every precaution is taken to secure that there shall be no avoidable inconvenience or annoyance to Dr. Herz and those who are attending on him. We are in communication with the French Government with the view of putting an end, if possible, to the existing situation, and I hope that an agreement upon the subject may soon be arrived at.
